Montreal, Canada, is a city that does not receive nearly as much attention as it deserves. It is a beautiful city that is frequented by people from all over the world. It is a tourist hotspot precisely because the city has something unique to offer. Montreal is a hub of tourist activity for Canada. The city was founded in 1642, but it was not constituted until 2002. It is an exceptional city that is too often ignored on the national and international scene.

Historically and currently, Montreal is an important city to Canada. The name Montreal comes from the middle french name for a three-peaked hill near downtown Montreal, Mount Royal. From the middle french, Mont Real, it is easy to see where the modern name for the city emerges. The three-peaked hill still stands outside of downtown Montreal and makes up an important part of the city’s skyline.

Montreal is known throughout the world because the city has hosted a number of international events. These events range from massive sporting events like the 1976 Summer Olympics to smaller gatherings of international associations, and cultural events like fairs. The majority of Montreal’s residents speak french at home, which makes it the second largest French speaking city in the Western World, trailing only Paris.
